Its Christmas time again

Well, here we are again, getting ready for the holidays. The tree is decorated, we are visiting family soon, and I have started my panicked knitting once again. So here are the very few projects that have been completed and started this year.

First off are socks for my sister. After much complaining about how I never make her socks, I made her some. She has been waiting all year for them, so I will be interested to see what her reaction is going to be. I think she has forgotten about them.

After taking such a long time off with the geocaching (which I still do a lot of) I also decided that I needed to make the husband a pair of socks for Christmas. Here they are for your enjoyment.

And after all of that, I decided I needed a pair for myself. I absolutely love this pattern, and this is the second time I have knit it (which is unusual for me). The yarn was a gift last year, and I have to say, it is nice to knit with, although difficult to see at night.

Well, that is about all for now. I am glad I have gotten back into knitting, and I hope to keep it up for a while (at least in the winter). So for everyone actually reading this, I want to wish you all a happy holiday season!

The fun of Geocaching

What can I say, I must have an addictive personality.

The kids and I have been geocaching basically all summer. However, it was last weekend that we actually ran into a geocachers foe: the evil poison ivy.

That said, it was not me who was attacked by this monstrous weed. It was my poor eldest, Brianna. While the smart geocacher wears pants while trekking through the woods, Brianna insists that dresses are made to wear everywhere. Unfortunately, we did not realize the weed or the rash that she developed until yesterday.

I took her into the doctors office today, and low and behold this beautiful rash on the back of my daughters legs is poison ivy. On top of which, this rash has become infected, so Bri is now on antibiotics and steroids to get rid of it. And yet, she will go geocaching again.

I have also decided that next year, I will send all this wool out to be processed. I will save up my money to have this done. I really want to spin this beautiful fiber, but the washing, picking, and carding takes way too much time. I much rather spin and knit.

Tomorrow Brianna is meeting with the BEST team at her school. This is a team of people who are supposed to evaluate children who may have some sort of disability. They have never asked to see Brianna, but Ron and I have been concerned over the past 4 years about her reading and writing. To put it bluntly, Bri still writes like a 1st grader. However, she is amazingly bright, so it will be interesting to see if this year will be the year we find out how to help her with her reading and writing. Heres hoping.

Labor Day Weekend

Well, this weekend has been an interesting one.

The family and I went up to McBain to celebrate Mary’s birthday. Her wish was to get a group of people together and play some music. We had a blast. I absolutely love Mary and Dick’s property, and their house is my dream house. We camped down by their pond and even though it rained on and off, we had lots of fun riding on the gator and ranger, playing music, and talking with friends.

While there I did get to play a little with my spindle. I forget sometimes how much I like to spin on my drop spindle. It is a top whorl, and is rather light. I thin it makes good sock yarn, and of course, it is very portable, which is a bonus. I showed Mary how it works and she got a kick out of it. She had just recently gone to Peru and had pictures of the women spinning and dying their alpaca fiber. It was very interesting. I have to find out what type of soap root they use.

Well, that is about it for now. We just got back home and the kids are being terrible. Granted part of it is that Ron and I have no patience at the moment. I am sure that on Tuesday I will have to update about the first day of school, but until then……Tchau!
